Consumers’ Association Demands Formal Investigation of Insurance Industry’s Obscene Profits
The Consumers’ Association of Canada today demanded Provincial Governments and the Federal Government act to roll back insurance rates resulting in record setting obscene profits for the insurance industry. “Governments have clearly failed to protect consumers and businesses from price gouging by the insurance industry”, said Mr. Bruce Cran, President of the Association.
“The insurance industry is now in full damage control in an effort to justify their record setting profits”, said Mr. Cran. This is the same industry that went begging to many Governments on issues like auto insurance and convinced some provinces that the victims of crashes should receive fewer benefits to keep rates down and the industry viable.
“This BIG LIE has now landed like a hot potato in the laps of provincial governments”, said Mr. Cran. “Governments in the provinces of Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia aided and abetted these obscene profits through their policies and now must take action to roll back rates and restore reasonable benefits”.
In the case of New Brunswick the public auto option now needs serious consideration as a way of protecting consumers in that province.
“It’s time these same Governments stood up for consumers rather than continuing to foster obese profits for the insurance industry”, said Mr. Cran.
