Royal Bank Computer Glitch
(June 7, 2004) ATTENTION CONSUMERS! The Royal Bank of Canada’s recent computer glitch has disrupted banking transactions for thousands of Canadian consumers. The CAC is looking into this issue.

Unfortunately, the CAC cannot address individual consumer problems in this area. If you have been impacted by the Royal Bank’s computer problem, please address your complaint to:

The Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments
Michael Lauber, Ombudsman and CEO
P.O. Box 896

SCAM ALERT!
Please be aware of an email scam targetted at Royal Bank clients. The Royal Bank reports that victims of the fraud are receiving emails asking for account information and other personal data. The message states that if they don't click on the link and key in their client card number and passcode, access to the account will be blocked.

While both the link and the e-mail -- which uses the address support(at)royalbank.com - look as though they're official and legitimate, they did not originate from Royal, which is warning its clients not to fall victim to the scheme.

CAC and the Royal Bank caution consumers to never give out banking PIN numbers or on-line passwords to anyone.
